Amalfi Coast
Holidaying along Italy's Amalfi Coast is like a dream come true. A playground of the rich and famous (and the rest of us) for centuries, its mezmerising allure has never waned. Around every narrow turn, another stunning vista unfolds.
Popular Positano nestles into the hillside above the beach and overlooks brilliant coves and glistening seas. Sorrento is more like your big sister. Everything's there and it's very accessible with trains, buses, ferries and more. The vista, equally astounding. On a clear day, you can see the isle of Capri, Naples, Mt. Vesuvius and the Gulf of Naples.
Escape the crowds and head for the hills! Walk the Path of the Gods. It goes from Bomerano to Nocelle (just out of Positano). For a more leisurely experience, shop the beautiful ceramics, amble through gardens and eat at one of the cafes of gorgeous Ravello.
When all else fails, do as the locals do. Find a balcony (out of the hot spots), pull up a chair, eat stuffed squid, sip cool Fiano, make room for citrus ricotta tarts and relax back with a cold limoncello.
Amanda Tabberer shares wonderful insights about lesser frequented gems like Atrani, Tramonti and Cetara at My Amalfi Coast. It's really worth a read and so are her books!
For a great general info on the area Rick Steves does a really great job. Where to go, what to do, what each town and place has to offer, the detail is terrific and the videos...almost like you're there!
Ciao bellas!
Buon viaggio. Here's to your Amalfi Coast dream.
